Do we rely on Technology too much?
Computers may have revolutionised the way we live and work, but what would happen if they all suddenly crashed??We may have escaped the millennium bug, but workers at London's stock exchange had a taster yesterday when their systems ground to a halt for eight agonising hours. Millions of pounds of business was lost on what was the last day of the financial year.(news.bbc.co.uk) Yes we do rely on technology far too much, at this stage we have forgotten how people coped without it years ago. It is a disadvantage to the extent if they crash, we crash. When i was working in a hotel the system "OPERA" failed it caused mayhem, it disorientated myself and my collueges, there was a backup system which was manually carried out, it caused major delay and loss of sales as a result. This was simply because we are not used to manually filing and doing everything else manually.
My Experience in DKIT
Well firstly i would like to say that i am shocked that i am almost less than a week away from officially finishing lectures/college for good, it feels a bit unreal. I did however learn an awful lot through my experience in DKIT.Through my four years of college i had a lot of experiences good and bad.
The pressure was the one thing i will remember, but the fact that it didnt knock me down is great and has made me a lot more capable to cope with stress. The course i am studying is relevant to the job i have at the moment and a lot of the things i was thought have rubbed off on me, while at work i use some of the techniques thought at DKIT on my customers.
College has thought me to be independant and opened a lot of new possibilities for me. I made a lot of friends in DKIT and through the course we learned about teamwork, even working with people you dont particularly like..Most of my experiences at college were good so i am delighted i stuck out the four years at DKIT.

Web Standards
The web needs guideance to realise its full potential, web standards are the guidance that helps the web. These standards ensure that everyone has access to the information the web is providing and also makes web development faster and more enjoyable. Using Browser specific codes doubles or triples the work involved in creating a web page, that situation only gets worse without the help of web standards.(Web Standards Project Developer Education Committee: Stephan Nedregaard who is the coordinator)Updated 02-27-2002.What i gather from the information above is that Web standards are like a guide, the tools or even a rule book provided to ensure the web pages are used to their full potential and to reduce problems and delays.

Sky + keeps freezing on me!!
Has anybody been having problems with their sky ever since they installed the newest and very attractive offer Sky +. I certainly have, Sky Plus allows you to paus, rewindl, fast forward, play and record any films or programmes you want, then watch them when you want. At home my Sky plus seems to jump a lot, particularly when i am watching a recorded programme or film, its getting very irritating. When i was at work last week the rugby was on, it was freezing and kept cutting off, the customers were very agitated and kept commenting about how some complaint should be made to Sky themselves. I agree, i feel it is a flaw that has only surfaced now, im not sure whether Sky are aware of this problem but something will be done about it when people start to load in the complaints...
Mobile Commuting
Mobile Commuting is using the internet via your Mobile phone, this was strange for me when i first discovered it, i looked at the news and weather on my phone by looking up ''RTE News and Weather" on Google Search Engine on my Mobile!!! just out of curiosity. I soon found out it eats your credit though! Even my three year old Nephew is familiar with Mobile Commuting, as he has often logged onto Vodafone website through my mobile while i was not looking! Quite advanced for his age!It is also quite useful the new technology which allows us to search engines, checking emails and downloading important data without the use of a computer, with a certain device i can download a picture or image and print it off, on my Mobile Phone, very handy.
''An improved electronic lock with keyless, cardless digital key system and integrated facilities management and administration system is provided for use in multi-unit buildings particularly in hospitality industry" Hotels all over the world benefit from using electronic devices that allow them to use while on the move as they are wireless, some using them as they work at home. Technology is depended on by all Hospitality areas. www.wipo.int.com

What is Search Engine Optimisation??
well my understanding of Search Engine Optimisation would be getting a site to show up as quick as it can after i type in e.g Tourism, i normally look at the first ten sites that show up, so them sites have good Search Engine Optimisation. I typed in Search Engine Optimisation on Google as this is the search engine i always depend on when looking up definitions and ideas for college, i chose the first site that came up, it gave a definition of Search Engine Optimisation as, "Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines." So yes the sites that come up on the first page are going to be the sites that will be looked at most by people all over the world. I guess Search Engine Optimisation is important to the site owners..
